Things to do in Akbuk

There is a regular minibus service called “dolmus” just outside the villa which takes 20 minutes to get to Altinkum, Didim and the Temple of Apollo.

Altinkum (Golden Sands) / Didim In Altinkum you will find plenty of shops and restaurants, plus loads of night time entertainment including some great music bars, re-runs of favourite TV comedy shows and live ‘big screen’ football matches.

A new marina is being built and a golf course planned. There are boat trips to Bodrum and Greek Islands (Samos, Kos). Didim is a large town adjacent to Altinkum offering all sorts of shopping opportunities and markets to explore. It is known around the world as the home of the Temple of Apollo.

In Didim there is a huge Aqua Park, to keep the kids happy!


Temple of Apollo

The ancient Temple of Apollo at Didyma 5 km north of Altinkum on the west coast of Turkey, was an important sacred site in the ancient Greek world. Its famous oracle and Temple of Apollo attracted crowds of pilgrims and was second in importance only to Delphi. Today, the temple's magnificent ruins still attract thousands of visitors - Didyma is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey. The modern name of the town is Didim.


 

Lake Bafa

Lake Bafa is a listed bird sanctuary situated at the foot of Mount Latmus, each year hundreds of thousands of ducks and aquatic birds migrate here. Crested pelicans are the most important as they are nearing extinction with only 2,000 left in the world and this is their third biggest colony.

The area has been declared a nature park of some 12,281 hectares. It is a haven for nature lovers with picnic areas, camp sites, bird-watching posts and trails.



Pamukkale

Pamukkale is a World Heritage site and regarded as the 8th wonder of the world by locals.

An attraction of great natural interest created by mineral rich water from one of a number of very hot springs. Water cascading over the cliff edge cooled and hardened leaving deposits of calcium.

Great natural pools, shelves and ridges formed becoming the largest and finest example of elaborate calcium formation in the world and now dominates the landscape for miles around.
